The Power of His Name – 2

id-protection

The greatest thing Jesus ever did for the believer was to give him the power to use His name.

Today we would refer to this privilege as a power of attorney. A power of attorney is a legal instrument that authorizes you to conduct business for another person. Courts, banks, businesses, all recognize that if a person has a power of attorney, they have the power to do anything that a person’s name can do.

If a person with $1 million gave you a power of attorney, you would instantly have access to $1 million of wealth and assets. You could actually use every single dollar until it was all used up and there is nothing the millionaire could do about it as long as the power of attorney remains in force.

With that legal concept in mind, let’s look at what Jesus told his disciples’ in John’s Gospel.

13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask[a] anything in My name, I will do it.  John 14:13-14 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Amplified Translation truly enlightened my World (pun intended)

And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I Am], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son. John 14:13 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

When we ask God the Father for anything, we are not asking him based on our merits, righteousness, shortcomings or failures. When we use the name of Jesus, we are presenting all that Jesus is to the Father.

In the earthly ministry of Jesus, He was miracle worker. When you pray, you are presenting the miraculous to the Heavenly Father. Jesus raised people from the dead; when you pray, you present resurrection power to the Father. In His death, He was the sacrifice that pleased God.  When you pray in Jesus’ Name, you present a sacrifice that pleases God.

Jesus is:

  • The way, the truth, and the life  (John 14:6)
  • The door (John 10:9)
  • The good shepherd (John 10:11)

This may start some controversy, but the truth must be told. Jesus NEVER told us to pray to the Father in no one else’s name. Every blood washed believer has as immediate access to the throne of heaven without any other intermediary except Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul tells us in First Timothy 2:5, “For there is ONE God and ONE Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus…” Revelation 5:10, tells us that WE have been made Kings and priests. Hebrews 3:1 declares that Jesus is the apostle and high priest of OUR confession.

Our loving and merciful Heavenly Father looks beyond our human imperfection and receives the divine perfection of our Lord Jesus Christ when we pray.

It is time for us to value His Name like never before. Don’t waste your privilege; don’t waste your blood-bought right.
