And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Romans 6:13 (NKJV)
As we discussed on yesterday, the most important thing after becoming born-again is to renew your mind. We must learn to think differently in order to change our actions. The world that we live in has their own system of thinking which leads to many of the actions that we see today. All throughout the world there is violence, financial turmoil, and political upheaval. People are fighting to survive this rat race they call “life”.
Let’s look at what Jesus said:
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). John 10:10 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
Does that sound like a life that most people live? Are you living paycheck to paycheck? Are you watching your 401(k) turn into a 101(k)? Do you find yourself getting frustrated with people when you talk about politics? Are you considering moving to the “safer side of town”? Most people have learned to deal with these situations and accepted it as being “life”. Yet this is not what Jesus (our Lord) said that He had come for. This does not sound like enjoying life or living it from a place of overflow. So where is the disconnect? Until we learn how to think the way of the Kingdom, even though we are brand-new citizens, we will still live like we are still citizens in the kingdom of darkness.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (NKJV)
We transform our lives by transforming the way we think. The bible word for “transform” is where we get the word metamorphosis. Most of us know this term from our science classes while attending school. More than likely it was used to introduce to you the process that a caterpillar or a tadpole goes through. As disciples, we must go through a similar process. Unlike the caterpillar and the tadpole who go through automatic changes, we must make a decision to change. Until we make a decision to change everything remains the same. You will also encounter resistance. Your mind will want to stay in its comfort zone because it fears the unknown. But on the other side of the “unknown” is a perfect will of God for your life.
Here are four VITAL steps to begin the transformation process:
- Hear the WORD of God
- Speak the WORD of God
- Believe the WORD of God
- Do the WORD of God
Until this happens on a daily basis, change will evade you. Your change is only a change away.
