SEEing the NEW You – Part 4

Lion-and-Kitten

Can You SEE what God is saying?

21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Ephesians 4:21-24 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

There are two aspects of being righteous; a position and a corresponding conduct (righteousness). God did not save you to live the same way you did before you accepted the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Accepting Jesus as your Lord means you yield your life, lifestyle, and life goals to God and His Word. If you are living the same way you lived BEFORE you were made brand NEW, you are living beneath your rank and privilege in God’s Family.

The scripture passage above speaks of two timeframes at the same time; the past and the present.  The past is referred to as “former manner of life” and “old self” Your present state is referred to as “renewed” and “the new self” You are the second catalyst to your transformed life. Jesus has done what you could not do (save you from the nature of sin), now you must do the part He will not do (change your thinking and actions). God’s desire is that our total life comes in line with the way He does things.

When I served in the Army, I was trained how not to conduct myself as a civilian. I was the same human being, but I had become a soldier. There was an expectation that I would conduct myself like a soldier because I was under the Army’s control. I had to conform to a totally different way of living.  As long as I conduct myself according to their standards, I received all the rights and privileges available to me as a soldier in good standing.

You were spiritually delivered from satan’s control (Colossians 1: 13) and now are excepted to reign in life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17 Amplified Bible). Our outward actions should now reflect the internal change.  Don’t make excuses for ungodly behavior, get rid of it. Don’t tolerate it, don’t accept it. You are brand new

Make this declaration of faith today:

I am born again!! I have a NEW nature and a NEW status in life. I will not allow the mistakes of my past to dictate my future one more day. My Heavenly Father has forgiven me and I wholeheartedly accept His forgiveness of my sin. My past has passed. I now have the power and responsibility to live like the person of Christ Jesus!!

Don’t waste your opportunity; don’t waste your legal right. SEE yourself as RIGHTEOUS!!

  1. Once a good friend explained difference between a son and a child this way. A child is an heir to everything but a son is capable of handling his father’s business. The child is loved but a son is loved and trusted. I believe that there are general rules that every child must follow but a trusted son is equipped and empowered for special works. Striving to be a son allows our Father to hand us His heart.
