SEEing God as Your Defender

View Point

Can you SEE What God is Saying?

God wants you to understand that He can be trusted to defend you. At God’s disposal, is a large host of angels to enforce God’s promises to protect and preserve you.

Elisha was given special knowledge about the enemy’s plans regarding Israel which made him a very serious threat to their success. He was such a threat that the king of Aram (Syria) mobilized an entire army to capture him!!

14 So one night the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city.15 When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha. 2 Kings 6:14-15 New Living Translation (NLT)

This does not look good for Elisha. He is completely surrounded. There is no escaping such a large force looking for one man. However Elisha is at complete ease. His enemy is outnumbered and overpowered and they do not even realize it!

“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 2 Kings 6:16 New Living Translation (NLT) Why did Elisha make such an unusual statement? It is obvious to everyone in the city that Elisha’s time is up. What was the difference? It was because of what Elisha could SEE.

Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. 2 Kings 6:17 New Living Translation (NLT)

When did those horses and chariots show up? When the enemy came? When the servant’s eyes were open? No, they were ALWAYS there. Confidence in God’s promise of protection gave Elisha the ability to SEE what was always there.

The angels of God have been downplayed by many believers as mythical creatures or fat babies with wings and harps. Even unbelievers talk about their “guardian angels”

However this is not how GOD SEES them:

Regarding the angels, he says, “He sends his angels like the winds, his servants like flames of fire.” Hebrews 1:7 New Living Translation (NLT)

20 Praise the Lord, you angels,  you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. 21 Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will!                        Psalm 103:20-21 New Living Translation (NLT)

For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. Psalm 91:11 New Living Translation (NLT)

Know This:

  1. God has promised to protect you.
  2. God has abundant provision to care for you.
  3. The enemy that has you surrounded, God has surrounded.

No matter what you are facing, God has already made plans to deliver you. Faith empowers you to SEE what God’s plan for you.
